The Twisted Scriptures - Lesson 28 - The Eldership - Perry Cotham
Thursday Dec 04, 2025
Thursday Dec 04, 2025
In this episode, The Eldership, we examine God’s pattern for church leadership as revealed in the King James Version of Scripture.
Paul describes the office of an elder with unmistakable clarity: “If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work… A bishop then must be blameless” (1 Timothy 3:1–2, KJV). Titus is instructed to “ordain elders in every city” who hold fast “the faithful word” (Titus 1:5, 9, KJV). Peter exhorts these leaders to “feed the flock of God… not by constraint, but willingly… being ensamples to the flock” (1 Peter 5:2–3, KJV).
We explore how these verses are sometimes twisted—whether by softening the qualifications, blurring the responsibilities, or elevating authority beyond what Scripture grants—and how returning to the KJV text restores a picture of humble, sacrificial shepherding that reflects Christ.
Whether you are studying the role of elders, preparing to serve, or seeking clarity on what the Bible teaches, this episode invites you to open your Bible and walk through these passages with us—one verse at a time.

Monday Dec 08, 2025
Monday Dec 08, 2025
In this lesson, “Law and Obedience”, we examine how many misuse passages about grace to downplay the clear biblical call to obey God’s commands. While some portray obedience as legalism or unnecessary effort, Scripture reveals that genuine faith naturally submits to God’s will and walks in His statutes. This study explores how the apostles taught the harmony between grace, law, and faithful obedience, exposing the dangers of doctrines that separate belief from action. Through careful examination of the Scriptures, we learn why true discipleship requires both trusting God’s promises and honoring His commandments with humble, willing hearts.

Monday Dec 15, 2025
In this lesson, Mormonism, we examine the teachings of Mormonism in the light of God’s Word, testing doctrine by Scripture rather than tradition or modern revelation. While many are sincere in their beliefs, sincerity alone does not determine truth. This study compares the claims of Mormonism with the Bible, exposing where additional writings, altered concepts of God, and redefined gospel messages depart from the faith once delivered. By rightly dividing the Scriptures, this lesson encourages listeners to seek truth, reject error, and hold fast to the gospel revealed in Christ and confirmed in the inspired Word of God.

Thursday Dec 18, 2025
Thursday Dec 18, 2025
In this lesson titled “Sin”, we examine how God’s Word defines sin and how modern teachings often distort or minimize its seriousness. While many portray sin as harmless mistakes or subjective choices, Scripture reveals sin as a direct violation of God’s will that separates mankind from Him. This study contrasts popular misconceptions with clear biblical truth, exposing how twisted interpretations can dull our conscience and weaken the gospel message. By rightly dividing the Word of truth, we are reminded of the true nature of sin, its consequences, and God’s merciful provision for forgiveness and redemption through obedience to His revealed will.

Monday Dec 22, 2025
In this lesson titled “Premillennialism”, we examine the doctrine of premillennialism in the light of God’s Word, carefully testing popular end-times teachings against the plain teaching of Scripture. While premillennialism is often presented as a hopeful and literal view of prophecy, this study explores whether its assumptions align with the full counsel of God or rely on misapplied passages and disconnected interpretations. By rightly dividing the Scriptures, we expose how selective readings and modern frameworks can twist biblical prophecy, and we point listeners back to a clear, consistent understanding of Christ’s kingdom, His reign, and the fulfillment of God’s promises as revealed in Scripture.

In this lesson, Because Its Inspiration Is Shown by Its Unity, we explore the remarkable unity of Scripture as clear evidence of its divine inspiration. Written over centuries by many authors from varied backgrounds, the Bible nevertheless presents one harmonious message—revealing God’s will, His redemptive plan, and His unchanging truth. This study highlights how such unity cannot be explained by human effort alone, but points unmistakably to God as the true Author, calling us to trust the Scriptures fully and rely on them as our final authority.

In this episode, Because It Enables Me to Confront False Ideas About Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage, we turn to the authority of Scripture to address one of the most sensitive and often misunderstood subjects in our culture. Rather than relying on popular opinion or modern trends, this lesson calls us back to God’s revealed will, examining what the Bible plainly teaches about marriage as a sacred covenant, the seriousness of divorce, and the conditions under which remarriage is addressed in Scripture.
By carefully considering key passages such as Matthew 19:4–6, where Jesus affirms that what God has joined together man must not put asunder, and Matthew 19:9, which addresses the exception concerning fornication, this study seeks to bring clarity where confusion often reigns. Listeners are encouraged to approach the topic with humility, compassion, and a firm commitment to truth, allowing God’s Word to correct false ideas and guide faithful obedience.
This episode challenges us to let the Bible speak for itself, enabling us to confront error with love while upholding the holiness of marriage and the authority of Christ in all matters of faith and practice.

Rather than placing ultimate trust in human wisdom, reason, or self, this study points us back to Scripture as the final authority for truth, morality, and purpose. By contrasting human-centered thinking with God’s revealed will, this lesson encourages listeners to uphold biblical truth, recognize the limitations of human reasoning, and stand firmly upon God’s Word in a culture that increasingly exalts man over the Creator.
